Where to stay in the Masai Mara: lodges and tented camps

Inside the reserve, near its gates or in the Mara Triangle: our Masai Mara lodges and camps, chosen so you can head out on safari from 6 a.m.

In the Masai Mara, staying inside the reserve puts you on the tracks at opening time, 6 a.m., while the lions are still active. The entry ticket is valid for twelve hours: sleeping inside means you don't lose part of it on the road. Outside the reserve, every game drive starts and ends at a gate.

Our selection only includes properties you can book on Booking.com, chosen for the safari.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to stay inside the Masai Mara reserve?

Yes, if your budget allows. You are on the tracks from 6 a.m., and none of your twelve-hour ticket is lost on the road. Outside the reserve, every day starts and ends at a gate.

Where should you stay in the Masai Mara to see the Great Migration river crossings?

Near the Mara River, in the north of the reserve or in the Mara Triangle. The wildebeest cross it mostly from July to October, and a lodge close to the river saves you hours on the tracks.

How do you get to the Masai Mara?

By paved road to Sekenani Gate, five to six hours from Nairobi via Narok. By small plane from Nairobi's Wilson Airport, allow 40 minutes to an hour of flying time.

Are game drives included in Masai Mara lodge prices?

Not always. Depending on the property, game drives are included or offered at extra cost: check each lodge's page before you book.
