Where to stay in Kruger National Park: lodges, hotels and camps

Inside the park, at its gates or in a Greater Kruger private reserve: our lodges and hotels for heading out on safari as soon as the gates open.

In Kruger, you sleep inside the park, at one of its gates or in a Greater Kruger private reserve. Inside the park, you are on the roads as soon as the gates open, with no line at the entrance. At a gate, the hotel offers more comfort, but you come and go on the park's hours. In a private reserve, you go on safari in an open vehicle with the lodge's guides.

The park's camps run by SANParks, the South African national parks authority, are booked directly with SANParks. Our selection only includes properties you can book on Booking.com, chosen for the safari.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to stay inside Kruger National Park or outside?

Inside the park, you are on the roads at opening time and come back at closing time, with no line at the gate. Outside, the hotel is often more comfortable, but every day starts and ends at a gate. For a first safari, stay inside the park or at a southern gate.

Where should you stay to see the most animals in Kruger?

In the south of the park, around Skukuza and the Sabie River. That is where you have the best chance of seeing lions, leopards and rhinos.

Can you book SANParks camps on Booking.com?

No. Camps run by SANParks, such as Skukuza or Lower Sabie, are booked on the SANParks website. Our selection only includes properties you can book on Booking.com.

What is the difference between Kruger National Park and a private reserve like Sabi Sand?

In the national park, you drive your own car on roads open to the public. In a private reserve, you go on safari in an open vehicle with the lodge's guides, and you don't take your own car out on game drives.

How many nights should you spend in Kruger?

At least three. Animals are mostly seen early in the morning and late in the afternoon: with two full days, you get more drives at those hours.
